Modern Religious Experience: Reflection Question #1

Modern Religious Experience: Reflection Question #1: "According to Mircea Eliade religion has 'not vanished without a trace; [it] has contributed toward making us what we are today and so, after..."

My history goes back to my great-great grandparents to when they moved from England or Denmark to South Africa. Both my parent's families were strong Christians, which has affected me and the reason why I am such a strong Christian today. However living in an African country, you are do witness some of the African religions, either the ones that the tribes still practice or see landmarks of religious places of the bushmen or San people. It just further proves that even primitive man believed in a higher power, or that something created this world. That they believe there are good and bad spirits in the world.

Even though I have been influenced by other religions, had non-Christian friends in my life, I still maintained being a Christian because of my history. My parents, at a very young age, always took me to church and even though we moved around a lot during my childhood, they always found a church that we would go to. If they didn't have a Christian upbringing and didn't do the same with my brothers and I, I could very well be a different person than what I am now, so my religion has a very big impact on my history.
